Who We Are and What We Do
Our Work
Beauty For Ashes Refuges was formed in response to the number of women fleeing domestic abuse, who are unable to access refuge due to their immigration status. Women are being forced into impossible choices: continued abuse, destitution, further physical or emotional harm or returning to a country where they have no roots and will be at risk of further harm.
Having worked in refuge provision the founder was shocked by the number of women and children being turned away from refuge due to their immigration status and decided to do something about it.
Our Christian faith and our belief that we are all made in the image of God underpins everything we do. We work with survivors regardless of their religious beliefs, tailoring our support to every individual.
Beauty For Ashes Refuges are a BAME led, by and for specialised service, for migrant women fleeing domestic abuse in the UK. Our strength lies in our people and their expertise and skills. Our all female board includes lived experience as well as women who have worked within the Domestic abuse sector at a managerial level.
Our founder, Becky Barlow has five years experience of working in Supported Accommodation and refuge provision and has formed partnerships across multi agencies including immigration, housing providers, churches and other charities. We recognise that we are stronger together and we will work alongside other women’s agencies to provide the best outcomes for our survivors.
